UFC Veteran Kimo Leopoldo Alive Despite Media Reports Of Death

Retired MMA fighter Kimo Leopoldo is very much alive and well after mainstream media reports of his death. The New York Daily News was first to report the story that Kimo had died of a heart attack, and it quickly spread to other mainstream media outlets.

A few hours later, the story began to unravel. First, Kimo's agent indicated that he had spoken to him at 11 PM Monday night and that he was alive and well. He did add that he hadnt spoken to him since, but that he had not received word from anyone close to Kimo of a problem nor had he been contacted by any authorities. Shortly after 2:00 PM Tuesday, Kimos attorney reported that the fighter had been located and was alive and well. Theres still a question of how the report that he was dead made it out in the first place, but the New York Daily News isnt providing much of an explanation--theyve simply deleted the report without comment and will presumably pretend it never happened.

The false death rumors are the latest twist to the utterly bizarre life of Kimo Leopoldo. A native of Munich, Germany, Kimo--he claimed later in his life that he had legally changed his name to simply 'Kimo'--was the UFCs first over the top personality back when the promotions events were still in the single digits. He was also one of the sports first freestyle fighters in an era when most competitors were specialists in one martial arts discipline.

Kimo compiled a solid record in the sports early years. By the end of 1997, he had compiled a 6-2-1 record with his only losses coming to Gracie and another UFC Hall of Famer, Ken Shamrock. He also earned a draw against a third UFC Hall of Famer, wrestling specialist Dan Severn. His career would tread water from that point, however, as a result of increasingly better fighters entering the sport and the collateral damage of Kimos own often questionable lifestyle choices. His last fight was in 2006, a loss to veteran Wes Sims.

To UFC fans, Kimo became known as much for his flamboyant personality as for his toughness as a competitor. He was a devout Christian, and sported many religious tattoos including a large "Jesus" inscription across his stomach. In an era characterized by low key ring walks, Kimo caused a stir when he entered the octagon at UFC 3 bearing a life sized wooden cross.

Kimo has battled drug and alcohol addiction throughout his life, and in recent years has reportedly became addicted to meth. Third, the warrior is much more active in adhering to his discipline of choice. I say this because the discipline of studying the martial arts is an active one. Simply, the warrior has something to do on his way to enlightenment, the other disciplines are somewhat lacking in the necessity for doing something.

Fourth, there is a built in guiding factor in the way of the martial artist. Simply, if a technique does not function, the result will be noted as a punch in the face. This 'feedback' device tends to make the artist more demanding in his seeking of perfection and enlightenment.

To conclude, let me point out that every method of enlightenment has its strengths and weaknesses. Heck, everybody knows that. So the point of this article is not to disparage other methods, merely to point out how glorious the one you are immersed in is.

Ludwig quickly pressed his advantage and never gave Morgan a chance to recover. Still feeling the effects of the liver shot, Morgan ate another hard punch to the solar plexus and gasping for breath was forced to tap out under the barrage of strikes. The victory gave Ludwig some redemption for an embarrassing TKO loss to Morgan in 2005 when he was simply overwhelmed within the first minute of the fight.

In perhaps the most entertaining bout on the card, highly touted Billy Evangelista survived his second big scare in as many fights to remain undefeated. After a split decision victory over Nam Phan in June, Evangelista found himself in grave danger of a TKO loss early in his bout with tough veteran Luke Caudillo. Caudillo"who goes by the nickname Lil Hulk"opened the fight with a flurry, knocking Evangelista to the canvas three times in the opening minute. Via some combination of wits and toughness, Evangelista managed to survive the barrage and began to take over the fight late in the round with his superior technical striking.

As the rest of the fight unfolded, Caudillo made the mistake of becoming a headhunter looking for a KO punch which allowed Evangelista to take over the fight. Evangelista continued to score with crisp combinations and as the bout progressed demonstrated his superior conditioning"a major factor at the high altitude of the Broomfield, Colorado fight venue. Evangelista would eventually earn a unanimous decision victory. Good display of toughness and resolve by up-and-comer Evangelista, and a nice showing by rugged vet Caudillo in the loss.

A highly anticipated womens match took place early in the evening, with former Hooters waitress Michelle The Karate Hottie Watterson easily defeating an overmatched opponent in Tyra Parker. Parker, whod lost her pro debut six weeks ago, may have been rushed back into action too quickly but she came out fighting gamely swinging for the fences with wild, powerful punch attempts. Watterson easily figured out her opponent, however, and The Karate Hottie quickly took over with her more disciplined striking approach. The dnouement came when Watterson landed several big knees from the clinch, took her opponents back and locked in a rear naked choke for the tapout win.

The event marked Strikeforces first visit to Colorado, and another in a series of very entertaining fight cards. Scott Coker and his team deserve a lot of credit for their matchmaking"even in the lower card fights they have a knack for putting together bouts that more often than not are exciting and competitive. - 31497

When one learns the martial arts one learns these training routines called forms. On the surface, the form is a dictionary of applications, of having a curriculum which will teach him higher and higher ranges of art. It is under the surface, however, through the refusal of distractions that one must apply himself in searching for the True Martial Art.

When one can refuse to have his attention wander in the middle of form one is cultivating his discipline. When one focuses only on the moves within the form, and does not allow himself to be sidetracked, then he is building concentration. The end result of these endeavors is to be able to keep awareness in the universe of the form, and not in the universe of trees and bushes and rocks and twigs and such.

The pieces of the form, the applications, are the middle arena of refusing to be distracted. This area, applying technique to a willing opponent, leads one from perfect thought to the execution of perfect idea even in the middle of chaos. When one holds to the physics of combat, holds to his mental focus, holds to the truths he has gleaned concerning his fellow man even in combat, then one is approaching a distraction free existence.

It is in the fact of kumite, however, that one must find his ultimate refusal of the distractions of the real universe. One must devote all his focus on the opponent, refuse the gas and tinklings of a random world, and build the truth of his own awareness. When one lives as if in a tunnel with his opponent, and can hold to the construction of that tunnel no matter the situation, then one has found and is living the True Martial Art.

These three arenas, kata, technique and kumite, are the true gladiatorial property of the True Art. To the extent that one refuses to be distracted, that one becomes pure in the focus of awareness, to this extent one enters the True Martial Art. The real key, to all this, however, lies in the achievement of one singular and important fact.

The universe runs backwards. It is not the things of the universe that hold distraction, it is the knowledge that one must not go towards a distraction free existence with effort, but, rather, but relax himself so that no distractions can find purchase in his soul. It is the emptiness of the universe, perceived by the individual free of contention, that is the Truth of the Path of the True Art. - 31497

When the feudal system faded away, the Samurai people shifted into farming.

A strange practice of committing suicide known as Suppuku existed among them. They believed it as a honourable way of death and was performed at the battle field or outside the battle as a formal function. One of the attendees, a nice guy by the name of Jeff, asked if it was possible to break a board using just the head. The head instructor's answer was in the affirmative, but he cautioned that it shouldn't be attempted until one had trained extensively. We then went into another room to break boards, and no one noticed that Jeff had not come with us.

We were in group discussion, and suddenly there was a tremendous thocking sound. It was such a unique sound that we all stopped what we were doing and stared at the door to the other room. The other room, where the sound came from, where Jeff had remained behind.

Suddenly, Jeff appeared at the door, he was standing aslant, and the look in his eyes was like little birdies singing. We all held our breaths as Jeff crossed the room, walking aslant, the birdies circling his head in a neat, little circling pattern. Jeff settled, well, sort of plonked, into a zen seated position, and the head instructor, with an eye on Jeff, continued his speechifying.

That's not the case in Japan, as Sakuraba is almost universally acknowledged as having brought MMA to the mainstream of Japanese sports and popular culture. In particular, his on-going feud with Brazil's Gracie family made him a major superstar and national hero.

While Sakuraba's resume certainly justifies the reverence with which hes held by the Japanese fight community, hes not really done anything to build on that legacy for several years. His last truly significant victory was a submission win over former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton Rampage Jackson and his last victory over what can be considered a quality opponent in his prime was against Kevin Randleman in late 2003.

Boxing pundits frequently speak of a fighter's age in terms of 'ring years'. For that reason a younger fighter who has endured a series of grueling fights against high level opponents can be considered 'old in ring years', while an older fighter who has taken an easier path is considered 'young' by the same metric. Under this evaluation, there's no doubt that Sakuraba has to be considered old in 'ring years'. His 90 minute battle with Royce Gracie alone took a significant toll on Sakuraba, and he continued to face high level opponents after that.

Sakuraba also made the most of his box office popularity, demonstrating his bravery by facing much larger opponents including heavyweights like Mirko Cro Cop and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. These physical mismatches would never be sanctioned in the more tightly regulated US fight scene, but were big box office in Japan. The result, however, wasn't as favorable for Sakuraba with most ending with him losing by knockout or submission.

Sakuraba has been less active in the past couple of years, but has shown little indication that he'll formally retire. Hopefully this decision won't undermine his legacy or more importantly negatively impact his long term mental and physical health. - 31497

Tai Chi Kung Fu Master Chan

Tai Chi was originated in Chan Ja Gou in China and therefore called the Chan's Tai Chi. No one knew about Tai Chi before 1850 when Tai Chi was first brought to Beijing by master Yeung. Until 1930s when the legendary tai chi master Chan Fa Ke came to Beijing, there were already many people teaching different styles of Tai Chi. Chan has the incredible skills and techniques that not only made him a legend but also a treasure to all his students.

When Chan came to Beijing and started gaining fame due to his exceptional abilities, there were many well known Tai Chi teachers teaching other forms of Tai Chi. One of them was master Lau who taught the Ng's Tai Chi. Lau and his students wanted to see whether Chan was as good as people was saying and invited him to their place for some demonstration. Chan came with the invitation. He greeted everyone and started demonstrating his rountines right away.

His style of Tai Chi was very different from Ng's which usually did the routines much slower and with little force. Chan did the two routines in 10 minutes. The speed and the power of the moves made everyone marveled. But some started commenting that his moves are not compatible with sound Tai Chi principles. Only master Lau was able to appreciate the essence of Chan's kung fu. Chan's moves were quick as lightning but smooth as silk with perfect circular motions. Lau humbly became a student of Chan after being even more impressed by his push hand skills.

Chan had many students and many of them were famous taichi masters. One of the most influential persons was Hung. He spend a lot of time and effort studying and refining Chan's combat system and came up with a modified version called the Chan's Practical Tai Chi, also known as the Hung's Tai Chi today.

One of the most important Tai Chi move is called the King Kong Pounding. It is actually the starting move of the first routine. In 1957, Hung went to Beijing and visited Chan. In the mean time, he asked whether the King Kong Pounding move can be used to handle attacks directly. Chan gave a positive answer. Later Hung change the move a little bit. The move is executed by raising right hand to contact opponent's coming right straight punch with forearm. Left hand twists internally and places in front to avoid elbow attacks.

Chan had experiences using the move in real situations. When Chan was living in his home town, the town was disturbed by robber's activities. The governors tried to hire martial artists to guard the town. One of them was Chan. One day another martial artist knew that a Tai Chi master was joining them. He went to challenge Chan. He was sitting on chair and smoking in the house during that time. The martial artist directly came in front of Chan and threw a punch at his chest. Chan immediately stand up but the punch had almost arrived on his body. He executed the King Kong Pounding move. He touched the man's wrist with his right hand and once he stretched his fingers, the man was bounced back and fell on the ground. - 31497

Mirko Cro Cop To Fight Hong Man Choi At Fields Dynamite

The bizarre career path taken by Croatian striking machine Mirko Cro Cop will continue on New Years Eve in Tokyo as he faces 72 Korean kickboxer Hong-Man Choi in what should be the final addition to the K-1/DREAM combined show called Fields Dynamite!

For Cro Cop, its another stop on what has seemed like a meandering professional course full of much talk and little action since his departure from the UFC. In September 10, 2007, Cro Cop had just won PRIDE's Open Weight Grand Prix in dominant fashion. Some were suggesting that he, and not Fedor Emelianenko, was the best heavyweight fighter in the world.

Cro Cops upset loss to Gabriel Gonzaga changed that and his career his never really recovered. In what was supposed to be a "tune up" bout, Gonzaga smothered Cro Cop and roughed him up on the ground before unleashing his own version of Cro Cop's signature kick. Mirko never saw it coming, and he crashed to the mat like he'd been shot with his leg folded awkwardly beneath him. Gonzaga went on to face Randy Couture, and the former Croatian anti-terrorism cop was relegated to being just another heavyweight.

Since the loss to Gonzaga it has been almost impossible to keep up with the various twists and turns in Cro Cop's career. After another UFC loss, this by unanimous decision to Cheick Kongo where Cro Cop looked listless and gun shy, his management announced that he had suffered a broken rib in the first round and was having trouble breathing.

Its been an eventful year for Hong Man Choi as well. 2008 began with a loss to Fedor Emelianeko on the Yarrenoka New Years Eve event, in which the Russian fighting god briefly struggled with Choi's 7'2" 330 pound frame before submitting him. In April, he joined the Korean army for his compulsory military service only to be relived from his duties after medical tests discovered a brain tumor. The tumor was removed in June, and Choi was back in the ring in late September.

Tanikawa's comments notwithstanding Choi is really the same as hes always been. Hes a physical mismatch for any opponent and while his striking style is awkward at best, it has proven to be reasonably effective. Not sure why Tanikawa is just now realizing that Choi isnt Ernesto Hoost, but hes a surprisingly skilled fighter who uses his unique physical attributes to their best advantage.

This fight isn't about competition as much as it is about commerce. Cro Cop remains one of the most popular foreign fighters in Japan, and with the proven success of freak show matchups this may have been the most attractive opponent for him from the promotions standpoint. Its a fight that Cro Cop should win, and in Japan at least a victory over Choi would have at least some significance. At the same time, Choi's size combined with Cro Cops recent reticence to throw punches and kicks makes it a potentially dangerous matchup for the Croatian striking machine. - 31497

How I Used Karate to Remove Myself from My Body!

Control the horizontal and the vertical, burn a mystic for Christ, we are about to get out of our bodies. Oooo, floating motes of intelligence, able to waft invisible into bedrooms and bank vaults everywhere! And it is all going to happen through an ordinary martial arts drill, common in systems of Karate and Kung Fu, and especially wudan arts.

If you can lower the volume of the spooky music for a moment, I'll explain. The out of body experience I am talking about is possible through Horse meditation, what we used to call Kima Chasie. In this article I am going to tell you exactly how to do that exercise, and what is going to happen

Back in the early seventies I was working on my black belt, and I was frustrated with this horse meditation thing. We would stand in the horse stance, one hand in a high block, the other hand in a horizontal, hooked back beak hand. We would concentrate out awareness on our clenched fingertips until our legs shook and sweat burst forth upon our innocent foreheads.

Yet, I knew the two minutes we spent in the drill were insufficient. I had heard the stories of guys who would stand in the stance for two hours, and how they became endowed with immortal powers. And, not to reveal my adolescent dreams, I wanted to be like superman.

The way to be like superman, to be honest, is just to go ahead and do it. So I began doing Horse Meditation in a more concentrated fashion. I would hold the horse stance until the ache became too great, and then break, and know that I had not succeeded.

I decided that I had had enough, I was going to do the big breakthrough. I was going to become the most immortal martial artist in the world...uh, other than Bruce Lee. I mean, I would be more than a God, but...Bruce is Bruce, you know?

So I took the horse stance, and when the pain started, I told myself one thing...it isn't going to kill me. Sweat, shakes, dire thoughts of having my legs disfigured for all time. But, having made the decision that I was going to make it or die...POP...I was out.

I floated above my head, disembodied, the world brilliant and forever, the source of immortality revealed. I had succeeded in using the martial arts, call it karate or kung fu or whatever, in realizing that I was a spirit, and that I was immortal, and that bodies were temporary things that you put on or take off as simply as one puts on a coat, or takes it off, or pants, they go on or off, too, and shoes, and socks, and...I was myself. Then, after a few minutes that seemed like an eternity, I decided to get back into my body, so I did, and I lost control, my stance fell forward, and I couldn't figure out how to move my body quickly enough, and I fell right, smack dab, square...on my face. - 31497

My pal Kyle Bruce noticed something weird when we discussed a common friend's competition. "I witnessed a handful of his fights, when he gets stressed; he shoots each and every time."

It made me ponder something. If you get in trouble, you cannot help but constantly return to your key martial art (which that means a wrestler will try for a double leg takedown, a Thai kick boxer will kick, and also a Jiu-jitsu chap will draw guard.

Our associate in question was in reality winning the struggle up until he attempted a double leg takedown. He was unbeatable on his feet, and had just grabbed the Plumb position and was kneeing the other fighter to submission. He out of the blue got concerned and slipped for his takedown and got caught in submission.

So what is your main art? You will likely turn to it in times of need (i.e. your scared or you have been distressed). That is why you see such large numbers of MMA fighters keep wishing to pull a takedown from thin air while getting punched to submission. It is behavioral instinct, and it's not always undesirable, it just is dependent upon the instant.

So prior to deciding to enter any competition, you'll want to be aware what your primary art is, and what you may perhaps go back to in case of emergency. You must keep in mind all of the possibilities in a fight and mostly make sure you understand yourself to help you keep yourself out of problems, if you try for the double while you're getting beat up and the other fighter has jammed your takedown all night... That is probably not the ideal opportunity, but at least you are able to train another back up approach rather than, "oh geez, I'm getting pummeled, I better try the single leg takedown."

So, understand your identity, what your main martial art is, and make a great back up plan of action to help preserve you inside the bad instances. That way, you are not trapped using a bad strategy. - 31497

I Used Kung Fu to have the Strongest Mind in the Whole Wide World

Try that on for size! The Strongest Mind ever to exist in the Whole Wide World, maybe the whole galaxy! Able to woo any dame and trounce any bad guy, and...sounds a bit too good to be true, doesn't it?

Oddly, the thing that I did worked, but not in the way I had anticipated. So let me tell you method I utilized, for free, and see how you do. Are you ready to have the Strongest Mind in the World, maybe in the universe?

I once came across the concept that a man who can concentrate on one thing for three minutes can rule the world. The point was that to stay mentally concentrated on one thing, to put it simply, blows up the brain power. Having read this, and wanting to have the most fully functional brain allowed by the powers that be, I decided to do it.

I was doing doing Karate at the time, and exploring martial forms such as Sticky Hands from Wing Chun Gung Fu, and various other martial styles, and I really thought that I had the mental willpower to pull anything off. I did my kata, I could remain calm during freestyle, and I had the discipline. Now all I had to do was apply that discipline to pursuing Nirvana, seeking enlightenment, or whatever you want to call it.

I decided to use a simple, little rock to shape the ultimate concentration and the resulting explosion of pure mentality which, I hoped, wouldn't shatter the universe too badly. A rock, after all, was what the earth was, and the shape of the thing was round, like the whole darned universe, and it seemed so neat and appropriate. So I went into a nearby field and chose a well shaped rock, and prepared to turn on my enlightenment.

I sat down next to a tree, placed the rock in front of me, and focused on it. I tried not to think, I tried to just focus on the rock, and to ignore all those silly little surface thoughts, like what was for lunch and what the latest movie was, or what I was going to do that weekend. I was, after all, going to shatter down the doors to heaven, so what use did I have for the following weekend, right?

After three minutes I got to my feet, tossed the rock aside, and started walking away, totally disgusted with how boring the whole thing was. I mean, to think that I was going to become an enlightened being just by being able to think at a rock, how stupid, how boring! Suddenly, my body was jerked to a halt as a sudden thought overwhelmed me.

It wasn't the stupid, little rock that was so darned boring, it was me that was boring. All that boredom was coming out of me, and I realized something...I would never be bored again. And I suddenly knew that I had achieved some form of enlightenment, the thing had worked, but not at all how I thought it would. - 31497

Getting the right martial arts uniform was very important to her as she was looking forward to participating in her first competition in the very near future. She had decided to purchase some new outfits for the competition hoping it would give her a boost of self confidence and make her feel like a true competitor. Jenny had always believed that what she wore was a big part of who she was and who others saw her to be. Jenny was one who subscribed to the old adage that it is the clothes that make the man, or woman as the case may be. Choosing the right outfit for a specific occasion need not be difficult. Sometimes, as in the case of the competition Jenny was involved in, the outfit requirements are predetermined. It simply, becomes a matter of fit and feel. For other situations, it is important to exercise discretion in regard to what you choose to wear. For example, a number of individuals have difficulty knowing how to dress for a job interview. Without bringing up job specifics, what one is wearing when meeting someone new is often part of the initial impression. Dressing for success is just one important way to show that you are someone who is conscientious. Really, there are just a handful of key rules to follow when trying to dress for a successful interview.

1. Keep modesty as a key priority. Wearing clothing that is suggestive, be it low cut or too tight is not a good tactic. The attention you will get will not be the kind of attention you are hoping to receive. Immodesty is a distraction and may very well be an embarrassment to the other party. Why should you jeopardize potential employment for something so avoidable?

2. Do not choose overbearing colors or patterns. Loud clothing can take away the focus from the individual to what is being worn. Very bright patterns can be distracting or off putting. It is great to exercise individuality in matters of dress and style, but when interviewing for most jobs, a toned down appearance will benefit the process. You want to be remembered for your skills not as the girl or guy in the Hawaiian shirt..

3. Choose an outfit that is clean and pressed. Employers do not necessarily make a mental note that your clothing is clean and pressed but they will most certainly notice if it is not!

4. Dress in a way that is fitting to the occasion. Some job interviews call for business attire while other situations require no specific formality. Be aware of an environment prior to interviewing so that you are dressed appropriately.

5. Tasteful attire can be found in all price ranges. Dressing for success requires a little premeditation but it need not be expensive. David was the type of student who was known for having a great deal of energy. On many occasions, his high energy level made it difficult for him to focus on things that required him to sit still or to be calm. Soon David enjoyed finding success through participating in this martial art. If you have a child who exhibits traits of those who have a high energy level the following activities are often recommended as good choices for energy release.

1. Tae Kwon Do is a really great activity for the child who struggles with high energy levels or focus issues. The art of Tae Kwon Do teaches body control and discipline and it is an excellent activity for a child trying to learn to control both mind and body.

2. Swimming is a very popular choice for children who are looking to get rid of some extra energy. The sport of swimming works the muscles hard but in a very safe and low impact environment. Children do not have to worry about injury to joints, muscles, or bones and learning to swim safely as a child is extremely beneficial later in life. Many children also experience a calming sensation from being immersed in water.

3. Involvement in gymnastics can assist a high energy young person in getting the exercise he or she needs. Participation in gymnastics teaches kids how to control body movements and offers a disciplined and structured environment.

What Led to the Development of Classical Karate!

The very first move of Karate, as taken from the first Heian or Pinan form, is a step to the side with a low block. But Karate was not designed for blocking. Yes, there are blocks in the art, and it can be adapted to blocking and striking modes, but it was not designed for blocking except by the way.

Karate was designed to guard the king of Okinawa. The Imperial bodyguards were trained to use their art in a room filled with warriors from different countries. Soldiers with different weapons and ways of fighting, while the Okinawans had to remain unarmed.

Thus, would you block a samurai sword? Would you try to deflect a bullet? Because these were the real weapons that the bodyguards had to face.

Consider also that the first order given samurai, if they were to attempt to kidnap the king of Okinawa, would be to handle the bodyguards. This means that samurai would move forward and grip the wrists of the bodyguards, perhaps preparatory to tying the hands, or merely moving the bodyguards from the throne room, or otherwise controlling them. And this means that the first defense of the bodyguards, as described by the first technique in most style of karate, would be to step in, dropping the weight and arm, thus escaping from the technique and head butting the men who tried to so restrain them.

That's right, an evasion for a wrist hold, then a violent step forward to close with and punch and shove the samurai, or whoever the warriors were. This would disrupt the attackers. This would allow the king to be removed from the throne room.

Now, take a close look at the kata. This is the only application that really seems to work. This is the start of the art that the Okinawans created had in mind.

If the samurai drew a sword, the bodyguard had to close with the samurai. This is the reason for the big steps in the form, to enable the bodyguards to get so close the samurai couldn't draw their swords. This explains the moves of forms that have been adapted to block and counter moves that, really, don't make sense in such a situation.

If a samurai attempted to close with a bodyguard and restrain him, the bodyguard had to break the grip, head butt, then push forward. This is the truth behind the first technique of karate, and this is the start of how the art was designed to work. Thinking about the movements in this manner reveals an art that is true beyond belief, but only if you can put aside the way you were taught and believe in the true art known as karate. - 31497

Fedor Emelianenko To Face Brett Rogers In Strikeforce Debut

Fedor Emelianenko will make his debut for the Strikeforce MMA promotion this fall, facing undefeated prospect Brett Grim Rogers. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker made the announcement at a Showtime promoted Fedor open workout in New York City. The promotion has yet to announce a date or a venue.

Fedor is considered by most experts to be the best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world, if not the best of all time. He snubbed the UFC following Afflictions exit from the MMA promotion business, choosing to sign with the up-and-coming Strikeforce promotion. Strikeforce agreed to co-promote with M1 Global, a Russian based promotion company owned by Fedor's manager Vadim Finkelchtein and to allow the fighter a non-exclusive deal that would enable him to compete in Japan and Eastern Europe.

After signing with Strikeforce, Fedor displayed his typical humility:

I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level. STRIKEFORCE is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world. I am prepared to fight any of them.

Emelianenkos manager, Vadim Finkelchtein noted:

I am very happy and excited about the upcoming collaboration with Strikeforce. We are very pleased that we found a reliable partner and I feel that Strikeforce and M-1 can support each other on many things. This will create big opportunities for both parties to test their fighters against worthy opponents.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker concurred:

We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with M-1 Global and Fedor. Fedor has been the reigning king of MMAs heavyweight division for quite some time now so being able to work with M-1 and Fedor will substantially increase the level of competition amongst the athletes in this weight class.

Fedor will put his 26 fight winning streak on the line against Brett Grim Rogers, who himself will enter the fray with an unblemished 10-0 record. The Minnesota native was originally being groomed by Elite XC as an opponent for street fighting phenom Kimbo Slice. After the demise of that promotion, Kimbo ended up on the UFC reality show The Ultimate Fighter while Rogers went to Strikeforce. His stock shot up precipitously following a first round knockout of former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski in his last fight, and now he takes an even bigger step up in class against The Last Emperor.

Considering that Emelianenko was a -500 choice at many books in the ill fated Affliction matchup against Josh Barnett(ranked the #2 heavyweight in the world at the time), he could be a -750 chalk or higher against the tough but inexperienced Rogers. - 31497

Eventually, Karate migrated to Japan, where it proved more than comparable to the arts of the Japanese. One must take into account, however, that the Japanese had stolen the imperial king. Thus, if the teachers of Karate even knew the truth behind their art, would they be willing to teach the people who had stolen their king?

The next step in the evolution of Karate came when the Americans conquered Japan. They did this by dropping an atomic bomb, and now we have the same scene as described in the last paragraph. One has to ask whether the Japanese, if they even knew the true art, would teach the people who had dropped an atomic bomb on them.

Finally. the art arrives in America. It is commercialized, made safe for children, and altered for tournaments. People are more concerned about reaching black belt and seeing the latest fight night than they are about the potential for knowledge through the art.

Finally, the art starts to fail as a workable self-defense. People laugh about MacDojos, and the brutality of MMA, at least workable, is held up to the light. Yet, the question is inherent here...what was the original art?

What is that art that was designed to maim and destroy in defense of honor and king? What is that art that plumbs the soul and reveals the depths of the man? I say it is still there, the true martial art is still there...you just have to be willing to look for it and work for it. - 31497

Mark Coleman Cut From UFC

Not too long ago, Mark Coleman headlined UFC 109 facing Randy Couture. Several days later, he's apparently no longer good enough to remain in the UFC at all. On Wednesday, following a lopsided loss to Couture the UFC released Coleman from his contract and cut the veteran heavyweight. Coleman is now free to sign with any other promotion, but at 46 years of age his most likely-and most advisable-course of action is retirement. Retirement is a tough thing for any pro athlete to swallow, however, and fighters in particular have had difficulty in ending their career gracefully.

Coleman became the first UFC fighter to be cut immediately after headlining a PPV event. Others have left due to drug test failures or for other opportunities, but none have ever been cut from their contract. Sources close to the UFC suggest that it was a decision no one wanted to make, but that all felt was unavoidable due to Coleman's age and deteriorating skills.

While the fact that Coleman is a shell of the fighter he was at his prime, the UFC's suggestion that they have his best interest at heart is somewhat duplicitous. He was kept around and booked into last Saturday's fight--a fight that no one particularly had any interest in seeing in the first place--simply because he was a fighter that Randy Couture could beat. Were the UFC interested in the well being of their aging fighters there's several others on the roster that should also be cut for the same justification as Coleman. Couture, Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell are all well past their prime but they're still under contract and will all likely fight again. No one wants to *see* an endless parade of old timers into the octagon, but the UFC seems determined to shove their version of the 'senior's tour' down the throats of the MMA fanbase.

Coleman's age has never been a secret and his diminished skill level was evident to anyone who has watched his recent fights. If the UFC was really interested in his physical well being, the main event against Couture should have never taken place. The fight itself wasn't exactly one that UFC fans had been clamoring for and one that met with derision from the MMA media from the time it was announced.

While retirement would be in Coleman's best interest, he may attempt to fight in a smaller US promotion or in Japan where he's well known from his time in PRIDE. He's already a member of the UFC Hall of Fame with a 26-10 career record and has fought the best in the world including Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop. - 31497
